Abstract
The purpose of this study is to assess the utilization of patient's rights by prisoners at Zomba
Central Hospital. This study will be conducted at the ward for prisoners at the chosen central
hospital. The sample will comprise of 12 participants of an unspecified gender, and who have
been admitted at the hospital or seeking services at the hospital. The participants to be selected
will be those who are literate, thus purposive, convenient sampling method will be used. The
clients will be given questionnaires to collect data.
The data will be analysed manually. The findings generated from the study, will assist in the
improvement of utilization of patient's rights. The findings will also help nurse practitioners to
provide care with consideration of patient's rights. They will influence in policy formulation
about patient's rights.
The sample will be collected from one central hospital therefore the results will not be
generalized to the whole country. Permission to undertake the study will be sought from the
hospital Director of Zomba Central Hospital, the Malawi Prisons Service and the Research and
Publications Committee at Kamuzu College of Nursing. Dissemination of the results will be
done through written reports submitted to the involved institutions.
