Abstract
Patients undergoing hemodialysis are susceptible to complications due to larger shifts in fluids, potassium, sodium and other biochemistries and are at risk of premature death due to complications following the procedure.
The purpose of this study is to explore the knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of patients undergoing hemodialysis towards complications that arise following the procedure at Kamuzu Central Hospital, Dialysis Unit.
A qualitative research design will be used whereby a sample of ten participants will be enrolled using simple random sampling. Data will be collected through in depth interviews using an interview guide and data will be analysed manually using content analysis.
Approval to conduct the study will be sought from Kamuzu College of Nursing Research and Publications Committee. Permission will also be sought from the Ministry of Health and from the Director of Kamuzu Central Hospital. The results of the study will be utilized by the policy makers, by other researchers and will guide the development of the curriculum for the nursing education.
