Abstract
The purpose of this study is to establish nurses' knowledge, attitudes and skills on indwelling urinary catheter care in the adult medical and surgical wards at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH), Lilongwe. The study will use a quantitative descriptive method. A sample of thirty clinical nurses working in adult medical and surgical wards at KCH for at least two years, will be selected using convenient sampling method. The questionnaire and an observation check-list will be the data collection instrument. Data gathered through closed ended questions will be analysed manually using descriptive statistics and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Any data gathered through the few open-ended questions included in the questionnaire will be analysed manually using content analysis and presented using narratives. Before conducting the study, permission will be sought from Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) Research and Publications Committee (RPC), Lilongwe District Health Officer (DHO) and Director for KCH. The human rights of the participants will be protected. The study findings will be disseminated to KCN library, KCH and Lilongwe DHO.
