This was a descriptive quantitative study that aimed to assess patients' knowledge on pressure ulcer development, management and prevention at Kamuzu central hospital in Lilongwe. The objectives of the study were to examine patients' knowledge of pressure ulcer, to assess patients' knowledge on pressure ulcer prevention, to identify patients' role in prevention of pressure ulcer and to assess patients' knowledge on pressure ulcer management. A sample of 30 subjects was chosen from surgical and orthopedic wards and a self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive statistical data analysis was done manually with a calculator and using Microsoft excel computer package. The results showed that 23.3% (n=7) had some knowledge while 76.7% (n=23) lacked knowledge of pressure ulcers. The factors which led to lack of knowledge in these patients were that they are not taught in hospital about pressure ulcers and that there are no messages about pressure ulcers on the radio or in the hospital.en_US
