dc.description.abstractThis was a qualitative study conducted at Kawale township in Lilongwe. The study aimed at exploring the people's perception towards repetition of HIV test once tested negative during the initial test. The purpose of the study was to increase public awareness on the importance of having HIV repetition test. This was done by assessing people's perception on HIV negative status, knowledge of people on window period, discovering the perceived significance of HIV repetition test to the individuals and lastly to explore the factors that influence people to have repetition test. The study involved a sample of 15 people 7 men and 8 women who had tested HIV negative during the initial HIV test. The age range of the subjects was 18-65 years. Data collection was done through a questionnaire and data analysis was done manually. The results of the study revealed that 40% of the participants did not go for HIV repetition test. These research findings will have a great impact on nursing practice, education, and research. Recommendations were made and they were much centred on the need for VCT counsellors to take measures in giving much information to people on the importance of having HIV repetition test. The results were disseminated accordingly through written reports.en_US
