| dc.description.abstract | Performance and quality improvement in reproductive health has been introduced to ensure skilled attendance and increase access to services thereby reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. PQI/RH was introduced at Q.E.C H in 2008. Since the initiation of PQI/RH, there has been progress in some of the departments while other departments have shown no progress at all. The study wanted to establish factors that are hindering progress to achieve quality performance in labour and postnatal wards at Q.E.C.H. The objectives of the study were to assess knowledge of providers on PQI[RH. To determine challenges faced by providers in implementing PQI/RH. Identify the availability of resources for implementing of PQI/RI-I and to assess whether departments have key players to facilitate quality achievement. The study was quantitative descriptive in nature and a semi structured questionnaire was used to collect data from participants. Providers working in reproductive departments were the participants for the study. The study sample was 30 providers. Participants were purposively chosen from the departments in order to have a wider view of ideas. Results have shown that providers have inadequate knowledge on PQI/RH and are meeting several challenges to implement the initiative. Findings from the study will help providers, Quality Improvement Support Team(QlST) and management to develop strategies to achieve quality performance in reproductive health service.
